Job summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) with the Veterans Affairs Health Care System - San Francisco - California will be the Night/Weekend on-call Attending or designee. Responsibilities include prescribing medical treatment, providing patient care, documenting observations and changes, and collaborating with the medical management team to ensure positive patient outcomes.

The Surgical PA will manage surgical inpatients, evaluate consults, and provide on-call coverage, including basic procedures and code

Responsibilities

• Prescribe medical treatment and provide personal care to veterans.
• Document observations, assessments, and changes in patient condition.
• Collaborate with medical management to support patient care outcomes.
• Manage surgical inpatients on the ward, transitional care units, and ICUs.
• Notify supervising physicians of changes in patient status or need for treatment alterations.
• Evaluate surgical consults in hospital or emergency department.
• Provide surgical coverage on-call and perform basic procedures like wound care and debridement.
• Serve as part of the code team for surgical coverage and handle additional duties as assigned.
• Instruct medical and allied health students; participate in CQI, peer review, and committees.

• Perform simple surgical procedures such as wound vac changes - surgical wound debridement - wound care - triage surgical problems - perform compartment pressure assessment - and assist in the operating room
