Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies is required.
• Current PA Physician Assistant License is required.
• PA-C or board eligible.
• Four to ten years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care including taking medical history and performing physical assessment; develop therapeutic care plans and discharge planning.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies to determine and implement treatment plans.
• Make medical diagnoses and institute appropriate therapy within scope of practice.
• Institute emergency measures and stabilize patients in acute situations (e.g., cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, shock).
• Ensure accurate documentation in EMR to support coding and billing; report pertinent information to attending physician.
• Educate patients and families on health, medications, and prevention; refer to community resources as needed.
• Communicate plan of care with attending physician and involve them in decisions outside scope of practice.
• Participate in continuing education, patient safety, quality improvement, and professional activities.

This job is an integral part of the care delivery system working together to provide a healing environment, by placing our customers first. The incumbent provides specialty and critical care healthcare services in physician office(s) and non-acute based settings with a focus on chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice. Specialty certification, advanced procedures with appropriate privileging, weekend and on-call coverage on a rotational basis, as required. E-consults and telehealth could be included in the care provided.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides appropriate patient care to include recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning and providing accurate medical record documentation for patients in physician office(s) and non-acute based settings (20%)
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies appropriate for the patient's condition to determine and implement treatment plans. (10%)
• Makes medical diagnoses and institute appropriate therapy within the applicable scope and standards of practice. (10%)
• Institutes emergency measures, treatment, or appropriate stabilization in acute patient situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock. (10%)
• Ensures appropriate understanding and timely documentation in the EMR to support accurate medical coding and billing, and record/report pertinent information to the attending physician of record. (10%)
• Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommend community resources as needed. (10%)
• Communicates effectively with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involve them in clinical decision-making for any issues outside the Physician Assistant's knowledge base or scope of practice. (10%)
• Maintains mandatory professional continuing education, actively participate in patient safety, quality improvement, and patient engagement initiatives, and maintain professional practice consistent with organizational and advanced practice mission statements and specialty-specific privileges. (10%)
• Specialty specific procedures and expectations as stated with privileging and job agreement. (10%)

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
• Current PA Physician Assistant License
• PA-C or board eligible.

Substitutions

• Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure within 60 days of hire
• Ongoing successful recertification (NCCPA) as a PA-C within 90 days of hire

• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
