Job summary

Penn Medicine’s orthopaedic hand division seeks a Physician Assistant to support a hand surgeon with outpatient clinic duties, inpatient rounds, consults and OR first assist. Located in Exton, PA with additional sites in West Grove and Penn Orthopedics facilities, you will deliver diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health care as part of the hands team.

You will collect histories, perform exams, order tests, and develop treatment plans while coordinating care and acting as a physician

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant studies required.
  • PA-C certification with National Board Certification required.
  • 2.5+ years of experience preferred.
  • Credentials Committee and Medical Board approval required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical care for patient population according to established protocols.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical records in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Identifies role to patient and family; clarifies the APP/physician assistant responsibilities.
  • Performs procedures within scope and refers to supervising physician when outside of scope.
  • Participates in performance improvement processes to meet quality standards.
  • Demonstrates professional responsibility as a role model within the health care team.
  • Provide patient education, counseling and instruction regarding diagnosis, treatments, medications, and prevention.
  • Support accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities; precept students and learners.

Summary
  • Physician assistant for our orthopaedic hand division to support a hand surgeon with their practice. The role will include outpatient clinic/duties, inpatient rounds/consults and operating room first assist.
  • Locations: Exton and West Grove offices, Chester County hospital and Turk's surgery center
  • This APP will provide access to the hand division while also supporting the surgeon with their hand practice.
  • The APP will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the division. Working as a practitioner of the health care team, they will take medical histories, examine patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and radiology studies and develop a diagnosis and treatment plan. They will coordinate care for their patients while working as a physician extender for the hand division.
  • Location: Penn Orthopedics in Exton,PA
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides direct clinical care for patient population according to established protocols and utilizes evidence based practice standards in collaboration with team.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with organizational standards in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Identifies self properly to the patient and family, and clarifies the role of the nurse practitioner or physician assistant if necessary.
  • The APP should function within their scope and refer to the collaborating/supervising physician when outside of scope, and/or directed by the physician or when requested by the patient and/or family. Performs interventions specific to assigned patient population and collaborative/written agreement.
  • Participates in the performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.
  • Demonstrates awareness of professional responsibility as role model to peers and members of the health care team.
  • Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.
  • Addresses patient and family concerns and creates a therapeutic relationship to provide support.
  • Provide patient education, counseling and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical treatments, medications, and preventative care.
  • Participate in and support accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Precept students and other health care learners.
  • Identifies patient/family needs for community resources and refers appropriately.
Required Education
  • Master of Science (Required)
  • PA-C: Master's Degreee requires and > 2.5 years of experience.
  • The APP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board. National Board Certification required.
