Job summary

Paos is seeking a Physician Assistant, Specialty, who will work under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician team to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced setting. The role requires independent judgment, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to patient wellness.

The incumbent will interview patients, order tests, interpret results, document care, and guide treatment plans while supporting infection-control standards and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Must have ARC-PA accredited program completion, state licensure, and certification.
  • Current DEA number from the DEA may be required depending on state practice.
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in healthcare or specialty practice preferred.
  • BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross required within first 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Identify short- and long-range patient care issues and recommend options to physicians.
  • Interview patients, perform physical exams, update medical histories.
  • Order or interpret diagnostic tests and review results.
  • Document patient care by charting in records.
  • Administer injections and immunizations; suture and manage wounds.
  • Counsel patients on regimens and wellness; provide guidance on growth and development.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans.
  • Maintain safe and clean environment by following procedures and regulations.
  • Adhere to infection-control policies to protect patients and staff.
  • Assist leadership with staff development and cross-training as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Job description

  • The Physician Assistant, Specialty incumbent adheres to strict departmental goals/objectives, standards of performance, regulatory compliance, quality patient care compliance, and policies and procedures. Functions independently as a certified nurse practitioner in collaboration and consultation with a licensed patient care team physician. Practices in accordance with a written or electronic collaborative practice agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; discussing family planning; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be detail-oriented, and able to pay close attention to patient charts, medications, and follow-up on details of patient care
  • Basic computer skills and some knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 75% of the time
  • Spoken and written fluency in English, bilingual a plus
  • This job requires use and exercise of independent judgment and the ability to work autonomously
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
  • Successful completion of program recognized by the accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant, appropriate state licensure, and certification
  • Current DEA number from the DEA for schedule II-V controlled substances may be required based on State of practice
  • Minimum three (3) plus years experience working in a healthcare or specialty practice preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required w/in first 90 days of employment.
