Job summary

Northwell Health seeks an experienced Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to perform a spectrum of inpatient patient care activities, including histories, exams, plan of care, rounds, orders, and discharge planning. Collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary teams is essential to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Required are a NY-licensed NP and RN, NC C PA certification, BLS, and an accredited NP program with a master’s degree.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from ARC-PA accredited program.
• Master’s Degree in Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current NY NP license to practice.
• Current NY RN license to practice.
• NCCPA certification required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Takes patient histories and performs physical examinations.
• Plans and documents care; follows up for complete screening and preparation of patients.
• Performs daily patient rounds.
• Writes orders for medications, labs, and diagnostics.
• Interprets lab results and test results.
• Collaborates with physicians, residents, nursing staff and other care providers to ensure quality care.
• Notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and referrals upon discharge.
• Provides post-discharge care instructions to patients.

Job Responsibility

• Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations.
• Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
• Performs daily patient rounds.
• Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
• Interprets laboratory and test results.
• Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
• Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts.
• Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.

Job Qualification

• Bachelor’s Degree, required. Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs ARC-PA) program, required.
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education, required.
• Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.
• Current BLS certification, required.
• Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program and National Board Certification in specialty area required.
• Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State, and current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
