Job Overview

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a credentialed position required to function in and practice in an expanded specialty. The PA has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions, and the daily implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. The PA provides comprehensive health care sensitive to the needs of the population, including assessment, diagnosis, prescribing, and referrals where appropriate. The PA enables patient choice in the provision of care, complementing the roles of MD and the multidisciplinary team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, human disabilities, pharmacology, gerontology, and medical terminology appropriate for an urgent‑care setting.
  • Conduct patient assessments and perform physical examinations, collect clinical data (including vital signs), obtain specimens, prepare patients for tests or treatments, order and interpret laboratory results, diagnose medical conditions, and administer medications or treatments.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and other therapeutic interventions required for urgent‑care patients.
  • Staff the outpatient addiction medicine clinic in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Round on and coordinate care for the inpatient consult service for patients admitted to other services (Trauma, Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn).
  • Coordinate care for emergency department patients presenting with opioid use disorder and related complaints.
  • Work with attending physicians to provide clinical support and education for providers caring for patients with opioid use disorder.
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance access to medically assisted therapy for opioid use disorder.
  • Complete accurate patient coding for effective billing and maintain detailed patient medical reports and inventory of medical supplies.
  • Serve as a resource and team leader during clinical shifts to ensure the smooth flow of patient processing, treatment, and discharge, including triage.
