Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health in Texas seeks a Physician Assistant to join the Intensive Care Unit as an Intensivist for day shifts. The PA provides direct patient care with prescriptive authority in inpatient critical care, including rounds, admissions and discharges, and collaboration with supervising physicians.

The role requires Texas PA licensure, NCCPA, and BLS/ACLS within 30 days. Inpatient setting with potential on-call coverage and opportunity to perform critical care procedures.

Qualifications

• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Texas.
• NCCPA certification is required.
• BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• ACLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• More than 1 year of inpatient experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients through exams and histories.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates labs and diagnostic tests.
• Prescribes medications and implements treatment plans following protocols.
• Collaborates with physicians and care teams on patient care.
• Counsels patients and families on medical processes and medications.

Job Summary

The PA Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified healthcare provider.
They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority.
They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as independent providers by Medicare and Medicaid.
The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice.
Inpatient Medicine providers work in critical care settings.
They manage patients by rounding, performing procedures, and handling hospital admissions and discharges.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem‑focused physical examinations and medical histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
• Formulates and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence‑based medicine. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
• Counsels patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over‑the‑counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
• Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
• Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and proficiency of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician.
• May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on‑call support.
• May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.

• Knowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health‑care measures.
• Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions
