Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Physician Assistant for inpatient medicine. The PA will provide direct patient care, perform rounds, manage admissions and discharges, and work under physician supervision in a hospital setting.

The role requires active PA licensure in Texas, NCCPA certification, and BLS/ACLS within 30 days. New grads are welcome to apply and benefits include health coverage and PTO.

Job Summary

The PA Inpatient Medicine is a licensed, certified, healthcare provider. They render direct patient care and have delegated prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Inpatient Medicine providers usually work in hospitals. They manage patients by rounding and handling admissions and discharges.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
• Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care and the effectiveness of care.
• Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients on drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
• Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider's specialty and training.
• Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and proficiency of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician.
• May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support.

• Know the information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
• Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions

• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
