Job summary

Wellpath is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive medical care to inmates under supervision. You will evaluate acute and emergency cases, document findings with SOAP and EMR, and support psychiatric assessments while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Licensed PAs with DEA registration and BLS/PALS where applicable are preferred. Correctional facility experience and a collaborative, patient-centered approach are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited education program for PAs.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a correctional/detention facility.
  • Unrestricted current PA license and DEA registration.
  • Current BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive medical care to inmates under supervision of medical leadership.
  • Evaluate and treat acute and emergency complaints and coordinate transfers when needed.
  • Document findings using SOAP method and EMR systems.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Provide cross-coverage and support psychiatric stability assessments.

How you make a difference

The Physician Assistant provides comprehensive medical care to inmates under the supervision of medical leadership. Responsibilities include evaluating and treating acute and emergency complaints, participating in administrative meetings, and supporting cross-coverage needs. The PA collaborates with physicians and mental health professionals, ensuring clinical documentation and treatment align with protocols. They maintain patient privacy and contribute to quality improvement activities. The role also involves emergency care coordination and psychiatric assessment support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver acute and emergency medical care in accordance with protocols
  • Consult with physicians and manage patient transfers when clinically indicated
  • Document all findings using the S.O.A.P. method and EMR systems
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and participate in quality improvement efforts
  • Provide cross-coverage and support psychiatric stability assessments
Qualifications & Requirements
EDUCATION
  • Completion of an accredited education program for PAs
Experience
  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Unrestricted current license, certification or registration in state of practice
  • Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
