Position Summary

Physician Assistant, Critical Care, Per Diem / Neurosurgery – NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. The role provides comprehensive medical care, coordinating treatment plans and performing delegated clinical duties within the critical care and neurosurgery service.

Job Responsibilities
  • Supports institutional mission and clinical service objectives.
  • Educates patients and families to promote healthy adjustment.
  • Evaluates and modifies treatment plans per clinical standards.
  • Performs delegated clinical duties efficiently.
  • Practices as allied health staff per Medical Staff rules.
  • Prescribes medical equipment, therapy, and home health services per protocol.
  • Prescribes in‑patient and discharge medications per New York State law and DEA authorization.
  • Demonstrates physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity.
  • Facilitates group processes and collaborates with interdisciplinary team.
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal, communication, creative problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Possesses physician assistant experience or fellowship experience preferred.
  • Has at least 2 years clinical rotation in various medical and surgical areas.
  • Coordinates implementation of clinical research studies and monitors cost effectiveness.
  • Assists in preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols.
  • Collaborates with nursing and other disciplines to develop and implement clinical studies.
  • Uses evidence‑based literature to advise and support practice changes.
  • Participates in patient outcome monitoring per practice protocols for quality improvement.
  • Serves as clinical expert and resource for peer education.
  • Maintains PA board certification and annual CME requirement for re‑appointment and privileging.
  • Promotes professional growth and development in clinical role.
  • Collaborates with attending physician to develop therapeutic plan of care and ensure communication with family.
  • Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate resource utilization.
  • Provides consultation to nursing staff regarding therapeutic regimen.
  • Facilitates patient throughput and efficient process during admission and discharge.
  • Facilitates continuity of care across continuum of services.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Physician Assistant Bachelor’s Degree (BA‑PA).
  • Current New York State Physician Assistant License.
  • NCCPA Board Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP).
  • Membership in pertinent professional organizations preferred.
