Job summary

Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons is seeking an UrgentOrtho Physician Assistant to provide timely orthopedic care in a fast-paced urgent care setting. The PA will independently evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries outside traditional clinic hours, working with orthopedic surgeons to ensure seamless continuity of care.

The role requires graduates from a PA program, Michigan PA licensure, and a DEA license; prior orthopedic experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • State of Michigan Physician Assistant licensure.
  • DEA license.
  • Proven orthopedic clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat acute orthopedic injuries across all ages.
  • Perform focused orthopedic exams and obtain relevant histories.
  • Order, review, and interpret X-rays and other imaging to guide care.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for fractures and injuries.
  • Perform splinting, casting, injections, and other procedures within scope.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons and care teams to coordinate care.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and comply with regulatory standards.

Position Summary

The UrgentOrtho Physician Assistant provides timely, specialized orthopedic care to patients presenting with acute musculoskeletal injuries outside of traditional clinic hours. Working in a fast-paced orthopedic urgent care environment, this provider independently evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients of all ages while collaborating closely with orthopedic surgeons and care teams to ensure seamless continuity of care. Providers in this role may work evening shifts during the week and weekend clinic hours based on patient demand and scheduling needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patient Evaluation: Assess, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages presenting with acute orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Physical Examinations: Perform focused orthopedic examinations and obtain relevant patient histories.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Order, review, and interpret X-rays and other diagnostic studies to support clinical decision-making.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for fractures, sprains, strains, sports injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Orthopedic Procedures: Perform splinting, casting, bracing, wound care, laceration repair, suture and staple placement/removal, injections, and fracture management within scope of practice.
  • Medication Management: Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Patient Education: Counsel patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, recovery expectations, and follow-up care.
  • Physician Collaboration: Communicate with orthopedic surgeons and care teams regarding patient status, treatment plans, and concerns.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including evaluations, procedures, and treatment outcomes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all clinical, safety, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Patient Care: Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced orthopedic urgent care environment.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program
  • State of Michigan Physician Assistant licensure
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License
  • Proven experience as a Physician Assistant in an orthopaedic setting, with demonstrated expertise in evaluating and treating patients across the lifespan, from pediatric to geriatric populations, presenting with a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of musculoskeletal examination techniques, orthopedic injury management, diagnostic interpretation, treatment planning, and rehabilitation principles.
  • Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and ability to integrate them into patient care.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Caring and compassionate demeanor, with a strong focus on patient-centered care.
