Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest in Waco, TX seeks an experienced Physician Assistant to support inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and ER services as part of a collaborative care team.

Responsibilities include exams, orders, therapies, procedure support, and patient counseling with adherence to standards of care; Texas licensure and NCCPA certification preferred; 2 years experience encouraged. On-site with strong benefits available.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited PA program.
  • 2 years of experience recommended.
  • Current Texas PA license and NCCPA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and take medical histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret labs and diagnostics to guide care.
  • Prescribe or manage therapies, follow evidence-based standards.
  • Develop and implement patient treatment plans with the care team.
  • Counsel patients and families on medical processes and medications.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and coordinate referrals as needed.
  • Provide perioperative and inpatient/outpatient coverage as required.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes, recommends, or uses medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients on drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty, level of experience and training.
  • Manages patients in a healthcare setting(s) other than primary clinic setting (e.g., inpatient, emergency services, surgical, procedural, etc.)
  • Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and provider’s level of expertise as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • Performs follow-ups with patients both pre- and post-operatively. May also round on patients in the hospital or see patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Participates in all phases of perioperative patient management including outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings.
  • May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.

  • Knowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
