Job summary

Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, LLC is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Physician Assistant to join our busy adult reconstruction team in Westmont. The PA will focus on anterior hip and robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty, working in a high-performance environment with a competitive salary.

To be considered for this position, a minimum of three years of direct experience in total joint procedures is a non-negotiable requirement. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment to effectively evaluate both surgical candidates and postoperative patients. You will demonstrate proficiency in surgical techniques and wound closure for primary hip and knee replacements while focusing on operative assistance, office procedures, and perioperative care.

Key clinical expectations include:
  • Independently performing ultrasound-guided knee injections and aspirations (hip injection experience is a plus).
  • Managing a workload primarily focused on outpatient procedures, which results in minimal inpatient rounding.
  • Sharing call responsibilities with another mid-level provider.

To promote a healthy work-life balance, this position is designed with a predictable schedule and a manageable call burden that excludes any emergency room responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform knee injections independently and hip injections (preferred).
  • Evaluate surgical candidates and postoperative patients using strong clinical judgment.
  • Utilize experience with robotic-assisted total knee systems, such as Mako, and outpatient arthroplasty workflows.
  • Serve as first assistant in the operating room and manage preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Perform in-office procedures and conduct occasional rounding.
  • Collaborate with the surgeon and care team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Engage in a limited call schedule alongside another mid-level provider, consisting of two weekdays per month and one weekend every quarter, excluding any emergency department call duties.

Performs other duties within the guidelines per department and hospital policy within normal scope and characteristics of the sponsoring/attending physician’s practice and current clinical privileges.

Work Environment
  • Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, as well as manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Employees will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
  • The employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours.
  • The employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.
  • The employee will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
  • Travel to all associated hospitals and/or facilities.
Requirements
Educational Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program with completed residency.
  • Physician Assistant IL state licensure up to date
  • Training in orthopedic care preferred
  • Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Active Certification from NCCPA
  • Active Licensure as Physician’s Assistant in the State of Illinois
  • ACLS desirable; current CPR required.
