Job description

Location: Cancer & Blood Specialists of Arizona

Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $170,000.00

Position Summary

Assists physician in the care and teaching of patients.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Write prescriptions for medication, blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and care post‑discharge in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Determine eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
  • Interpret and evaluate findings of studies and tests.
  • Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens as prescribed.
  • Dictate follow‑up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
  • Dictate or write patient history, admissions, progress notes, and discharge notes in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients’ care.
  • Conduct or participate in daily multi‑disciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure appropriate and quality care.
  • Provide on‑call coverage and perform hospital rounds as needed.
  • Triage patients to determine urgency of physician evaluation.
  • Document and report care in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and records.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and remain flexible in the changing health care environment.
  • Assist staff in times of crisis or emergency.
  • Meet with the public outside the institution and efficiently market and promote cancer treatment.
  • Determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of assignments.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adhere to company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Keep work area and records neat and orderly.
  • Maintain all company equipment safely and in working order.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times as required by HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
  • Work at any company location to meet business needs as directed by collaborating physician.
  • Work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold current license/registration to practice in the state of employment.
  • Have prescriptive privileges or be eligible to apply, and hold necessary certification from ARC‑PA.
  • Be BLS certified.
  • Fluent in English with verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations, physicians, employees, patients, and families.
  • Possess leadership skills necessary to direct others toward objectives that contribute to successful patient treatment.
  • Have analytical skills to evaluate patients’ status, healthcare procedures, and to monitor quality of patient care.
  • Have fiscal skills to monitor and control costs and revenue.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion while performing duties.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license in the state of residency for travel to clinics.
  • Can effectively communicate and interact with coworkers, hospital staff, patients, public, and physicians.
  • Be willing to travel 0–25% of the time.
