Job summary

Potomac Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive medical care at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL. The role covers primary and specialty care, pre/post deployment health surveys, and operating under approved protocols.

The ideal candidate holds ARC-PA accredited PA program, NCCPA certification, US citizenship, and at least three years of clinical experience. A valid unrestricted PA license is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited program.
  • Certification by NCCPA and active PA licensure.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
  • US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full range of PA services in primary and specialty care.
  • Manage immunizations and preventive care per protocols.
  • Diagnose, treat, and counsel patients across organ systems.
  • Supervise and train staff; deliver lectures and in-service training.
  • Collaborate with physicians and nursing staff to promote care.
  • Maintain medical records per MTF procedures.
  • Refer complex cases to specialists as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Knowledge and experience working with Special Operations Forces requiring medical consults and treatment for pre and post deployment health surveys, as well as a full understanding of medical issues surrounding SOF personnel. Knowledge of DOD regulations regarding physical exam requirements for Airborne, HALO, SF, Flight, PJ and special schools physicals. Knowledge of Aviation Medicine to include history and physical examination requirements, qualifications and disqualifications for flying duty, and familiarity with the medical administrative requirements.

  • Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).

  • Technically direct and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions in order to diagnose, prescribe for and treat diseases, disorders and injuries, and refer the more complex cases and serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform designated treatment.

  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.

  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.

  • Prescribe in accordance with approved treatment protocols and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved medications and immunizations.

  • Identify a medical problem and determine appropriate action to meet the problem, including referral to a physician. Approving/ disapproving sub specialty referrals.

  • Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with scope of practice.

  • Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nursing and others in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.

  • Teach patients and family member's healthy regimen and responsibility for achieving wellness.

  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement. Qualify (Qualifying/Credentialing). In addition to the qualifications listed in the contract, the following additional or supplemental qualifications are required.

  • Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.

  • Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.

  • Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.

  • Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.

  • Complete peer reviews as directed by the Medical Director.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree Graduate from an accredited college or university certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA).

  • Three years of experience of clinical competency.

  • Board eligible or board certified.

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant.

  • Must be a US Citizen.
