Job summary

Carolina Pain & Spine is seeking one or two Physician Assistants to join our interventional pain practice in Raleigh, NC. You’ll run your own procedure schedule, manage complex regimens, and help determine when spinal cord stimulators or kyphoplasty are indicated.

Join a research-active multidisciplinary neurosurgical and pain network with mentorship from double board-certified pain physicians. This on-site, full-time role offers growth in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification.
• Active NC PA license with prescriptive authority or eligibility.
• Strongly preferred: prior experience in pain management; candidates from related fields considered.

Responsibilities

• Independently evaluate and triage patients—take history, exam, and determine procedural candidacy vs medication optimization.
• Perform interventional procedures in the office (e.g., trigger point injections, joint injections).
• Manage medications with clinical judgment, titrating and adjusting regimens as needed.
• Own your patient panel—coordinate care, educate patients and families, and track outcomes.
• Contribute to a research-active practice with opportunities for clinical trials.

Carolina Pain & Spine is looking for one or two Physician Assistants to join our growing interventional pain practice. If you want to work at the top of your license — running your own procedure schedule, managing complex medication regimens, and being the clinician who identifies which patients actually need a spinal cord stimulator, an SI joint fusion, or a kyphoplasty rather than another refill — this is that job.

We're part of NeuroCarolina, a multidisciplinary neurosurgical and pain network with locations across North Carolina. Our physicians are double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, trained at institutions like Duke, MGH/Harvard, and Wake Forest, and active in clinical research through the NeuroCarolina Research Institute. You'll be working alongside physicians who are also investigators, consultants, and innovators in the field — not just clinicians running a schedule.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

This isn't simply a medication refill role. We want a PA who can:

• Independently evaluate and triage — take a history, run a focused exam, build a differential, and know which patients are procedural candidates versus which need medication optimization, imaging, or a different specialist entirely
• Perform procedures yourself — trigger point injections, joint injections, and other office-based interventional work
• Manage medications with clinical judgment, not just protocol-following — titrating, weighing risk, and knowing when a regimen isn't working
• Own your patient panel — coordinate care, educate patients and families, and follow through on outcomes, not just throughput
• Contribute to a research-active practice — exposure to clinical trials and evidence generation if that interests you

Who We're Looking For

• Graduate of an accredited PA program, current NCCPA certification
• Active or eligible NC PA license with prescriptive authority
• Strongly prefer: prior experience in pain management. We'll also seriously consider strong candidates from other backgrounds
• Comfortable — or eager to become comfortable — performing office-based procedures independently
• Sharp clinical judgment: someone we can trust to know what they don't know and elevate appropriately
• A communicator who builds real relationships with patients, not just checks boxes in the EHR
