Qualifications

  • Ability to safely prescribe and manage psychotropic medications with supervising psychiatrist.
  • Strong patient-centered communication, including motivational interviewing and psychoeducation.
  • Experience with diverse populations, trauma-informed care, and stigma sensitivity.
  • Accurate clinical documentation in an electronic health record system.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills for outpatient care.
  • Commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary care and ongoing learning.
  • BLS/CPR certification; outpatient psychiatry experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and document histories.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans; prescribe and manage medications as allowed.
  • Monitor treatment response and adjust interventions as clinically indicated.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Physician Assistant role based in Cary, NC. The Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care in collaboration with psychiatrists, including conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, documenting histories, and performing mental status examinations. Daily responsibilities include developing and implementing treatment plans, prescribing and managing medications as allowed by licensure, monitoring treatment response, and adjusting interventions as clinically indicated. The role involves delivering patient and family education on diagnoses, treatment options, and lifestyle strategies, with a focus on holistic and trauma-informed care. The Physician Assistant will also coordinate with therapists and other healthcare professionals, maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record, and participate in quality improvement and case review activities to support best outcomes.



Qualifications


  • Current Physician Assistant license in North Carolina and graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program; national certification (NCCPA) in good standing.

  • Clinical experience or strong interest in psychiatry, behavioral health, or primary care with significant mental health exposure.

  • Demonstrated skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnostic formulation, and evidence-based treatment planning.

  • Ability to safely prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in collaboration with supervising psychiatrist, following best practice guidelines.

  • Strong patient-centered communication skills, including motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, and empathetic listening.

  • Ability to work with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, with sensitivity to trauma, stigma, and cultural factors affecting mental health.

  • Proficiency in maintaining detailed, accurate clinical documentation and using electronic health record systems.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a steady caseload in an outpatient setting.

  • Commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary care and ongoing professional development, including staying current with psychiatric research and guidelines.

  • BLS/CPR certification; experience in outpatient psychiatric practice is preferred but not required.
