Job description

Responsibilities

The Physician Assistant (PA) is certified by the State Board of Medicine (or State Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners) to provide medical services under the direction of the supervising physician. The PA augments the physician’s data gathering abilities in order to assist the supervising physician in reaching and instituting care plans for the physician’s patients. The PA provides patient medical screenings to determine medical attention, reviews patient medical records to determine health status, obtains patient medical history, and performs history and physical examinations.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description as well as the criteria established by the medical staff. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. PA must be available to work in all treatment setting, including children, adolescents, adults and dually diagnosed patients.

Education: Certified PA in the State of Pennsylvania with 2 years relevant clinical experience in a medical setting. Previous experience with behavioral health patients highly preferred.

Experience: Two years clinical experience, preferably working with behavioral health patients.

Licensure/Certification: Certified PA

Knowledge: Must possess relevant clinical knowledge of the medical and psychiatric needs of all age groups, including age specific growth and development, limit setting, behavior management, and CPR training.

Supervision Received: Supervising Physician

Supervision Exercised: None

Line of Promotion: Clinical to Administrative Duties/including scheduling of medical services

Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit unpredictable and impulsive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. The PA works in a behavioral health hospital environment.

Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen. Job Classification: Exempt; Work hours vary based on staffing needs and include day, evening, night and weekend shifts.
