Job summary

Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group is seeking to employ a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their Acute Care Surgery team, including surgical ICU, trauma, and emergency general surgery.

Responsibilities include night shifts 6:00 P.M. – 6:00 A.M., trauma ED response, Surgical First Assist in the OR, and procedures such as chest tubes and arterial lines. Requires NCCPA and Florida license, ACLS/BLS, and two years of critical care APP experience.

Qualifications

• Requires NCCPA certification.
• Requires Florida license by time of hire.
• Board-certified PA or Acute Care NP with relevant 2/4 years of experience (≥500 acute care inpatient encounters).
• Board-certified Adult/Family NP with ≥1000 acute care inpatient encounters.

Responsibilities

• Trauma/ED response and ICU rounding.
• Surgical First Assist in OR for elective, acute and traumatic cases.
• Perform procedures (chest tubes, arterial lines, central venous catheters).

Job Summary

Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group is seeking to employ a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their Acute Care Surgery team consisting of surgical ICU, trauma, and emergency general surgery.

Sarasota is located approximately 60 minutes south of Tampa. The area is known for the arts, great restaurants, world-class beaches, excellent schools, and a wide variety of activities for all ages.

Position Highlight:

• Join seven (7) Trauma/General/Surgical Critical Care Surgeons and 20 Advanced Practice Providers.
• SMH is a Level II Trauma Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center and the only hospital providing trauma care services in Sarasota County.
• FDOH Designation Trauma Center since 2016 and re-designated in 2023 with no deficiencies.
• Over 175,000 emergency visits and 2800 Trauma Activations annually

Responsibilities include:

• 13 shifts a month working the night shift 6:00 P.M. – 6:00 A.M. Must be flexible and willing to work occasional weekends and holidays.
• Trauma response in the Emergency Department, rounding in Surgical Trauma ICU and hospital floors.
• PA-C will see patients in the general surgery and trauma acute care outpatient clinic and provide Surgical First Assist in the operating room for both elective, acute care, and traumatic surgical cases.
• Ability to perform procedures including, but not limited to, placement and removal of chest tubes, arterial lines, and central venous catheters.

Requirements:

• CurrentNCCPAorANCCcertification required and must also have an active license by the State of Florida by the time of hire.
• Board Certified Physician Assistant, Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitionerwho has active, relevant and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 500 acute care inpatient encounters over two years).
• Board Certified Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner,who has active, relevant, and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 1,000 acute care inpatient encounters over two years).
• ACLS/BLS required. ATLS is preferred and can be obtained at Sarasota Memorial Hospital if not currently certified.
• Minimum of two (2) years Critical Care APP experience.
• Qualified candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to work within a team.

The PA IV Trauma is highly specialized in trauma services protocol. Typically works in multidisciplinary settings and units managing patient care. A PA is a graduate with a master's degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high‑quality, cost‑effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).

Required Qualifications

• Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Require bachelor's degree from accredited physician assistant training program.
• Require minimum of one (1) year experience or post graduate APP resident in cardiovascular/ cardiothoracic surgery.
