Qualifications

• Current CPR Certification; Board certification preferred.
• Medical Degree required.
• 2 years in an institutional healthcare setting preferred; correctional healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in the evaluation, treatment, and monitoring of inmate-patient acute and/or chronic medical issues.
• Ensure health care unit operation complies with facility standards.
• Maintain sick-call processes for patient access to necessary services.
• Implement established suicide prevention programs.
• Participate in developing proposed priorities for services and programs.
• Contribute to discussions on chronic care programs and medical supplies.
• Assist in reviewing medical practices for quality consistency.
• Provide 24/7 physician coverage and consultation as needed.
• Effectively communicate with site clinical and administrative staff.
• Participate in site meetings and committees as requested.
• Assist in recruitment and interviewing of qualified medical staff.
• Oversee scheduling and daily oversight of clinical staff.

Position Summary

Practices medicine promoting and providing quality medical care in a correctional setting. He/She works with the Medical Director, clinical staff, and other medical personnel to ensure high‑quality, safe care for inmates.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in the evaluation, treatment, and monitoring of inmate‑patient acute and/or chronic medical issues.
• Ensure that the health care unit operation complies with facility standards and that the scope of care is appropriate for the staffing and resources available.
• Maintain sick‑call processes to ensure patient access to medically necessary services.
• Implement established suicide prevention programs to identify, refer, and treat patients at risk for suicide.
• Participate in the development of proposed priorities for services and programs.
• Participate in discussions regarding the need for new chronic care programs, new medical equipment, and the selection of general medical supplies and stock medications.
• Assist in the review of corporate, state, and site‑specific medical practices to maintain consistency with Wexford Health’s quality objectives.
• Participate in a call rotation, as needed, to provide 24/7/365 physician coverage and consultation for clinical and security staff.
• Effectively communicate with the Medical Director and site clinical and administrative staff to keep them informed of issues in a timely manner, including the submission of requested reports.
• Actively participate in site meetings and committees when requested.
• Participate in the recruitment and interviewing of qualified medical and clinical staff when requested.
• Participate in scheduling and daily oversight of site‑level clinical staff.
• Upon receiving the necessary training and/or instruction, perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Job Requirements

• Licensure: Current New Mexico Medical license, Current New Mexico Controlled Substance license, Current DEA required.
• Certification: Current CPR Certification; Board certification preferred.
• Education: Medical Degree required.
• Preferred Experience: 2 years in an institutional healthcare setting preferred; correctional healthcare experience preferred.
