Job summary

Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida seeks a Physical Therapy Technician to support therapists in patient-centered rehabilitation. You will prepare treatment areas, guide patients through prescribed exercises, and maintain a safe, clean clinical environment with accurate documentation.

Daily duties include assisting with patient flow, orthotics fitting, copying exercise sheets, arranging therapy items, and keeping the department tidy.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Physical Therapy Technician providing support to both physical therapists and occupational therapists in delivering patient-centered rehabilitation. Assists with preparing treatment areas, guiding patients through prescribed exercises and functional activities, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized clinical environment. Supports patients in improving mobility, strength, and independence with daily living tasks while maintaining accurate documentation and collaborating with the therapy team to ensure efficient clinic operations.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the therapists with patient flow in and out of clinic
    • Starting patients
    • Assisting with moving patients through exercises, ice and e-stim donning and doffing
  • Orthotics fitting and distribution – documentation required
  • Make copies of exercise sheets and keep necessary physical therapy forms stocked
  • Arrange exercise items neatly when the patients have finished using them
  • Keep the therapy department clean and organized in general including
  • Daily responsibilities: straightening up rooms, cleaning beds after each use, keeping up with laundry, cleaning equipment, cleaning stim pads, check soap dispensers, Cryo-cuffs – fill every morning, empty at end of day, turn of equipment, set out hot pack pads to dry, plug in massager)washing hot pack pads, keeping hydrocollators clean, defrosting the freezer, keeping suture removal tool box clean, cleaning splint making machine, washing and drying laundry, refilling any ultrasound gel bottles, replacing drinking cups for patients, replacing towel rolls, replacing old thera-bands, and other miscellaneous cleaning duties
  • Weekly responsibilities: fill ultrasound gel, refill disinfectant bottles, check therabands, assist with biohazard disposal, change cleaning cloths, check rooms and carts for wound care supplies, order supplies, notify DME dept to order back braces as needed)
  • Monthly tasks: regular scheduled cleaning of modality equipment

Minimum Requirements (education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required)
  • High school diploma or GED

Essential Physical Functions
  • Work demands prolonged periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, occasional walking up and down stairs, overhead lifting, carrying cumbersome items such as: supplies (up to 20 pounds) working the equipment, and physical stress. (Work is 90-100% sitting and walking)
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients at times; Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard and other office equipment as necessary
  • Ability to view computer screens for long periods of time
Equipment Used
