Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a patient care assistant to prepare patients for treatment and to assist therapists under supervision. The role involves handling routine department tasks and supporting therapists in exercise programs, mobility activities, hydrotherapy, wound care and other care activities.

• Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment and observe alphanumeric characters

Responsibilities

• Administers treatments or procedures as delegated by therapist and supervised by therapist or athletic trainer.
• Maintains and distributes linen.
• Communicates with supervising therapist, therapist assistant, athletic trainer and colleagues; completes routine documentation.
• Assists department managers with tasks or projects
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors per Memorial Hermann policies and budgetary specs
• Promotes professional growth and development by meeting mandatory education and competency requirements; may serve as preceptor or mentor
• Demonstrates commitment to compassionate, personalized experiences for patients and colleagues
• Other duties as assigned

Job Summary

Position responsible for preparing patient for treatment and assists therapists with patient care. Always under direct supervision of a licensed staff member for patient care. Responsible for routine departmental tasks as assigned.

• Clinic is open Monday & Wednesday from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm and Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
• Will need to be flexible to work an eight (8) hour shift during clinic hours.

• Ability to read, understand, and communicate fundamental clinical information to patients and caregivers who have various levels of clinical understanding
• The position requires occasional/frequent lifting up to 75/100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting
• Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary
• The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position

Principal Accountabilities

• Administers treatments or procedures as delegated by therapist and directly supervised by therapist and/or therapist assistant or athletic trainer. These activities designated and defined by therapist may include, but are not limited to: therapeutic exercise program, transporting patients, functional activities, supervised mobility activities, ultrasound, heat/cold applications, electrical stimulation treatments, hydrotherapy/wound care/dressing application and cleaning of department.
• Maintains and distributes linen.
• Communicates effectively with the supervising therapist, therapist assistant, athletic trainer, and other professional colleagues. Completes routine documentation duties accurately and efficiently..
• Assists department managers with various tasks or specific projects
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
• Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
