Job Summary

To evaluate, plan, implement, and document a goal‑oriented program of physical therapy interventions that facilitate optimal musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, integumentary, physical function and health. The role includes interdisciplinary team collaboration, communication of relevant clinical information, and education of staff, patients, and families. The candidate will supervise physical therapy assistants, rehabilitation aides, volunteers, and affiliate students. This is a temporary physical therapist mentee position designed to provide enhanced clinical training and mentorship for a newly graduated or entry‑level clinician.

Essential Functions
  • Provide evaluation and treatment of cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, and neurological impairments as required by state practice act and licensure.
  • Recognize physiological, psychological, and age‑related changes in patients, consult with team members, and establish measurable goals with patients and families.
  • Plan, implement, deliver, and adjust patient care using therapeutic modalities and interventions based on assessments.
  • Instruct patients and families through verbal, written, and audiovisual materials.
  • Participate in discharge planning and recommend community resources.
  • Manage schedules and patient load to meet productivity and quality standards.
  • Delegate responsibilities to support personnel and supervise delegated tasks.
  • Document all professional interactions, including evaluations, progress notes, equipment orders, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and health‑care team members to foster positive relationships.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, using AIDET principles and institutional values.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited physical therapy program with a Baccalaureate, Masters, or Doctorate degree.
  • Current Connecticut licensure or a valid Temporary Connecticut License.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred: Current CPR certification.
  • Preferred: Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Preferred: MHS or Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Physical Demands

Requires up to four hours of consecutive standing or walking, ability to safely transfer patients, lift objects up to 10 pounds continuously and up to 75 pounds occasionally, push or pull up to 60 pounds, and perform repetitive body positional changes such as bending, reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, or crawling. Must tolerate submersion in up to shoulder‑depth water for 1–3 hours and possess functional fine and gross motor skills, upper extremity sensation, and intact vision for skin assessment.

Cognitive Demands

Requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning, adaptability to new situations, selective attention in noisy environments, clinical judgment for prognosis and plan of care, ability to learn new techniques, strong written communication skills, and competency in medical terminology and Medicare/billing requirements.

Work Demands

Primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work. Requires continuous collaboration with others, unpredictable scheduling due to census and documentation, noisy and crowded setting, exposure to body fluids, chemicals, and other agents that may cause irritation.
