Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant to join a multi-disciplinary team delivering patient-centered physical rehabilitation services. The PTA works under supervision of a Physical Therapist to implement the plan of care and ensure proper documentation.

You will collaborate with PTs, nurses and other staff, communicate effectively, handle equipment, and contribute to continuous quality improvement in care delivery.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited program and licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Current with all Continuing Education (CE) requirements.
  • Proficient communication and teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates team approach to problem solving with frequent communication and collaboration.
  • Ensures operation of equipment and performs preventive maintenance as required.
  • Participates on committees and supports PT staff in patient care.
  • Assists with plans of care and patient education under supervision of a Physical Therapist.
  • Maintains documentation accurately and timely per state and facility guidelines.
  • Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

The Physical Therapist Assistant is part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver patient-centered physical rehabilitation services to patients, supports Physical Therapist in treatment procedures. Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) are required to have supervision from a Physical Therapist to deliver services. PTAs communicate thoroughly and regularly with Physical Therapists to ensure delivery of plan of care. Completes all required documentation as per state/federal and facility guidelines.

Responsibilties

A day in the life of a Physical Therapy Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Demonstrates team approach to problem solving through frequent communication and collaboration on complex issues to provide appropriate care.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by using equipment consistent with equipment specifications; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; and calling for repairs.
  • Participates and represents PT staff on committees, as requested by supervisors.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge in assessing the need for durable medical equipment for patients. Follows through with appropriate professionals to ensure proper fitting and educates patient on proper usage.
  • Maintains professional competence and keeps current with Physical Therapy trends through participation in continuing education, in-service programs, and professional staff sessions.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements.
  • Fosters good relationships and communications with all team members, physicians, patients, family/significant others and visitors.
  • Assists with new Team Member orientation and provide key experiences to prepare Team Member independent performance of essential job functions. Problems are reported to designated Supervisor promptly.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Instructs, encourages and assists patients to carry out plan of care, specific to patient’s needs and goals established by Physical Therapist(s).
  • Models and maintains safe environment to deliver services for patient, self, and healthcare team. Employs correct body mechanics during all activities.
  • Demonstrates and implements evidence-based treatment techniques and skills with patients. Maintains professional competence and keeps current with Physical Therapy trends.
  • Continuously monitors patient’s response to treatment and adjusts treatment accordingly in consultation with Physical Therapist.
  • Identifies and reports any real or potential problems regarding the development or admin of patient care.
  • Assists with discharge planning by collaborating with physicians, nurses, social workers, supervising physical therapist(s), and other healthcare providers.
  • Contributes to patient care conferences.
  • Completes all documentation accurately and in a timely manner, consistent with all state regulations.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Completion of an accredited program and licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Current with all Continuing Education (CE) requirements
  • Performs clinical care professionally
  • Serve as a patient advocate and role model to other Team Members
  • Deliver patient care with minimal disruptions and obstacles
  • Ability to effectively work on a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred
  • Computer skills
  • Prior work experience with geriatric and disabled populations
Licenses And Certifications Required
  • Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
