- JOB SUMMARY
- The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) administers physical therapy treatments to patients, working under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
- Confers with members of the physical therapy staff, physician and other practitioners and team members in order to obtain patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrates physical therapy treatment with other aspects of patient care.
- Administers active, passive, resistive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage and modality treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation and hot/cold packs.
- Observes patient during treatments, compiles and evaluates data on patients’ response and progress and reports orally or in writing to the Physical Therapist. Completes all required documentation in EPIC accurately and timely.
- Instructs, motivates and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities.
- Fits patients for, adjusts and trains patients in use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers and wheelchairs.
- Instructs patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
- EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum requirement:
- Associate’s Degree in Applied Science
- Maintains active licensure in the State of Kentucky as a Physical Therapy Assistant
- Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred qualifications:
- One year experience as a PTA.
- WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
- Constantly exposed toblood and/or body fluids andinfection.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
- Frequently required to walk and move about.
- Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
- Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
- Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
