Responsibilities
  • Provide developmentally and educationally based intervention to improve safety and independence.
  • Data input into secure, computerized systems for reports and billing.
  • Implement treatment plans through consistent daily and weekly schedules focused on functional and measurable outcomes.
  • Deliver specialized individual and group physical therapy instruction as mandated in students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Collect data and complete reports regarding student goals and progress.
  • Consult with other professionals (Teachers, SLP, OT, PCP, etc) to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive therapy team.
  • Assess and document each student’s progress through formal and informal tests and measurements.
  • Write and prepare annual review reports and goals for each student in accordance with their IEP dates and requirements in order to remain in compliance with state guidelines.
  • Provide physical therapy expertise when developing FBA/BIP.
  • Provide parent and caregiver support and education to discuss the student’s progress and strategies for continued support outside of school.
  • Attend all school-related meetings as scheduled, such as, but not limited to, triennials, annual reviews, domain, referrals, and pre-IEP meetings for each individual student.
  • Ensure a suitable learning environment by setting up and preparing materials and supplies as needed.
  • Supervise PTAs in accordance with state practice act guidelines, as needed.
  • Communicate and follow up with schools and families to obtain appropriate physician signatures/orders for school-based physical therapy referrals in order to initiate and continue services.
  • Follow the safety guidelines and directives for the student in regards to functional mobility and orientation (i.e. transfers, wheelchair or walker mobility, etc.) and exercises provided by other related service providers.
  • Utilize communication devices and assistive technology as outlined by the speech language pathologist and itinerants.
  • Follow any fire drill or safety guidelines outlined for each individual student.
  • Provide screenings and evaluations to determine requirements for skilled physical therapy intervention relative to student/client’s level of function.
  • Provide documentation to maintain the quality of therapy records, as it relates to reimbursement guidelines, accuracy of billing information, and school requirements.
  • Participate in school trainings, in-service, and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
