Qualifications & Requirements

• Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist.
• Current license and CPR certification (if required by clinic or practice area).
• Minimum of 1 year work experience as a Physical Therapist.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy.
• Fully credentialed to compete for the VCUHS Physical Therapy Clinical Ladder.
• Lymphedema certification or experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver physical therapy care to the assigned patient population and record care in the hospital medical record.
• Act as a consultant to various patient populations.
• Provide instruction to occupational/physical therapy support staff, PT students, other discipline personnel, and patient/family members.
• Rotate through various clinical service areas as needed.
• Perform patient evaluation and implement intervention programs; plan for discharge.
• Order equipment, represent the department at rounds and discharge conferences.
• Schedule and charge patients.
• Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, students, and volunteers (if applicable).

Additional Position Requirements

• Share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations; work flexible daily hours from 8 AM to 7 PM as needed.
• Age‑specific patient groups served: Pediatrics, Adolescence, Adult, Geriatric.
• Physical requirements: lifting 50–100 lbs, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing steps or ladder, overhead reaching, repetitive motions.
• Mental/sensory requirements: strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speaking, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
• Emotional requirements: work at fast pace, steady pace, handle multiple priorities, frequent & intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adapt to change.
