Job description

Physical Therapist – Acute Care

Under general supervision, delivers physical therapy (PT) services through evaluation of patient needs, goal determination and development of treatment plans in accordance with the Maryland Physical Therapy Practice Act. Demonstrates competency in treating multiple patient populations within the acute care setting.

Education
  • BS, Masters, or Doctorate in Physical Therapy
Licensure and Certifications
  • Current Maryland license as a Physical Therapist
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR Certification)
Experience
  • At least 1 year of experience
  • Acute care experience preferred
Skills
  • Knowledge of physical therapy theories, practices, and standards
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to evaluate patient function, develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress
  • Ability to set priorities and schedule patients utilizing time efficiently
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in use of standardized tests to support documentation
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to manage an average caseload per productivity goals set
  • Ability to treat at least two high‑risk patient populations
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn EMR navigation
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patient Care
    • Evaluation: review medical history, diagnosis and physician’s prescription; observe and interview patient/caregiver; apply appropriate assessment procedures; determine short and long‑term goals with patient/caregiver input; establish plan of care based on goals and evaluation results; identify barriers to patient care.
    • Treatment: implement appropriate therapeutic interventions, progress treatment plan, teach activities to reinforce interventions, provide/fitting assistive devices, recognize patient distress signals needing follow‑up; document evaluations, re‑evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries; record data required for statistics, billing, and quality improvement activities; utilize PTAs, rehab techs, and volunteers; supervise as required; provide written and verbal patient education; communicate with multidisciplinary team.
    • Collaboration: communicate with multidisciplinary team and patients/caregivers; participate in discharge planning with interdisciplinary team.
  • Teaching, Training, Mentoring
    • Provide a positive experience for assigned medical residents and volunteers or student shadow experience; act as resource for new staff.
  • Department Initiatives and Team Work
    • Receptive to departmental initiatives; demonstrate flexibility with schedule; identify and communicate workplace issues; use chain of command to promote cohesion and teamwork.
  • Professional Growth & Development
    • Recognize clinical limitations and seek education; seek advice from PT mentor or program manager; use evidence‑based research for practice and documentation.
  • Performance Improvement
    • Seek and incorporate feedback; participate in performance improvement activities; adhere to department performance improvement requirements.
  • Leadership Collaboration
    • Resolve unit issues and develop resolutions; perform peer reviews annually.
  • Fiscal Accountability
    • Demonstrate billing and coding proficiency; manage time to increase productivity; meet productivity standards; seek feedback for improvement.
  • Community Outreach
    • Support GBMC sponsored community events.

Pay Range: $33.06 – $54.22 per hour.
