Job summary

The Oklahoma State Department of Health seeks Physical Therapists I–III for the SoonerStart early intervention program in Purcell. You will examine and treat infants and toddlers with developmental delays, providing diagnostic and therapeutic services in natural home or childcare settings.

You will participate in assessments, develop individualized plans, educate families, and coordinate with an interdisciplinary team to support mobility and daily functioning.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in physical therapy and Oklahoma license.
• Doctorate in Physical Therapy preferred.
• Eligible for licensure by Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provides early intervention services in the child’s natural environment (home, childcare, park, etc.).
• Develops treatment plans addressing neuro-motor and activity needs.
• Performs evaluations and assessments for services and develops IFSP in coordination with family.
• Supervises Physical Therapy interns during fieldwork as needed.

The program builds upon and provides supports and resources to assist family members to enhance infants or toddler’s learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.The Physical Therapists in the SoonerStart program is primarily responsible to examine and treat children with physical impairments and/or difficulties through the use of physical modalities. The goal is to assist the caregiver and child with physical challenges to improve mobility and function to increase independent movement and other skills necessary for functioning in daily routines.This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services in the areas of Physical Therapy. Services are provided in the child’s natural environment settings in which children typically spend time, for example, home or childcare. Services include screenings, evaluations, intervention, and parent education.Position Responsibilities /Essential FunctionsThe functions within this job family will vary by level; responsibility but may include, but are not limited to, the following:Provides early intervention services in the child and family’s natural environment (home, childcare, park etc.)Makes recommendations concerning standardized treatments/intervention based on developmental indications.Completes child assessments concerning developmental, educational, and social skills/abilities.Participates in family interview.Conducts intakes, including client interviews, and conducts assessments to make appropriate recommendations for services.Participates in the development and implementation of the Individualized Family Service Plan according to state and federal guidelines.Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.Develops a treatment plan to address areas of need including routine-based activities, neuro-motor and sensory-motor function/activities and child/family coaching and education sessions.Participates in the assessment, design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices.Evaluates child’s response to treatment/intervention and makes recommendations on changes in treatment as required.Maintains confidential records of services including progress notes and evaluation reports in compliance with state and federal regulations.May provide limited supervision and training of interns.Participates as a supervisor to Physical Therapy Interns during their fieldwork experience.Being present at the office is an essential function of the job.Other duties as assigned.Other DutiesDemonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers.Minimum Qualifications:Level I: This is the basic level where incumbents perform beginning level professional work as a physical therapist and develop their technical skills in screening, evaluation, assessment, program planning, parent education and intervention while assisting in or performing various treatments.Requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in physical therapy and a current Oklahoma license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Preferred candidates hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.Level I ONLY: A letter of eligibility issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision will be accepted as long as the letter of eligibility remains valid. However, a valid permanent license as a Physical Therapist must be obtained prior to the expiration of the probationary period.Level II: Physical Therapist II is the career level where incumbents perform all duties of a physical therapist at the full performance level. The incumbent will assume a lead role in evaluation, assessment, program planning and intervention.Requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in physical therapy and a current Oklahoma license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision plus one year of professional experience as a licensed Physical Therapist. Preferred candidates hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.Level III: Physical Therapist III is the specialist level, where incumbents are assigned responsibilities involving advanced level duties in occupational therapy. Incumbents at this level may assume a lead role in evaluation, assessment, program planning, intervention, and supervise physical therapy students during fieldwork experience. May provide in-service training in areas of recognized expertise at the local, regional, and state level.Requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in physical therapy and a current Oklahoma license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision plus two years of professional experience as a licensed Physical Therapist. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms and may lift up to 35 pounds.Travel RequirementsApplicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with any of these positions.
