Job summary

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is seeking a licensed Pediatric Physical Therapist to provide evaluation, treatment and plan of care for neonates through young adults in a pediatric setting.

Applicants must hold an Arizona PT license, BLS, AZ DPS clearance, and APTA pediatric specialty certification; experience in pediatric ortho/neuro/NDT is preferred, with ability to collaborate across care teams.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a physical therapy program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
• Pediatric experience is required or preferred for this role.
• Specialized pediatric training in orthopedics, neurology, neuromuscular, NDT, taping or related pediatric areas.

Job description

This position provides physical therapy services to a pediatric population, from neonatal through adolescence/young adulthood. Performs evaluation, formulates plans of care, and provides treatment of patients using modalities including exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, mobilization, heat/cold, taping, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound, specific to age and developmental/functional level determined by assessment. This position addresses routine problems in the work environment by assisting with or referring complex cases to other, more experienced team members and/or leaders. This role manages a daily workload, identifies routine issues in the work area, and solves problems with guidance from other professionals, as needed.

Position Duties

• Professional Physical Therapy Services
  • a. Evaluates and treats patients with a wide range of diagnoses including but not limited to: neurological, sensorimotor, musculoskeletal disorders/delays, complex medical conditions, and trauma.
  • b. Demonstrates knowledge of typical development and possesses skills necessary to provide age-appropriate services. Uses pediatric-based behavior management strategies and matches diagnostic/therapeutic interventions to age/ability of the child, using a framework of family-centered care.
  • c. Establishes appropriate treatment plans with age-appropriate, functional, and measurable goals with target timeframes. Obtains mutual agreement upon discussion with family/guardian. Implements patient’s plan of care using treatment modalities including but not limited to exercise, neuromuscular re-education, mobilization, heat/cold, taping, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound as prescribed by a physician. This may include recommendations for dynamic medical equipment to maximize function.
  • d. Performs patient/family teaching for maximizing function within the home/community and implementation of home program.
  • e. Provides care as outlined in the Standards of Care section of the APTA and Phoenix Children’s Policies & Procedures Manual.
  • f. Maintains productivity standards for clinical level and appropriate and timely documentation in compliance with department policies, regulatory/accreditation standards, and state/federal guidelines.
• Builds and maintains rapport within the department, hospital, and community, while professionally interacting with physicians, families, and hospital/community personnel. This includes participation in in-service training programs.
• Supervises and directs assistive personnel including but not limited to physical therapist assistants, rehab technicians, and students.
• Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

1. Specialty training/expertise in pediatric ortho, neuro, neuromuscular, NDT, taping, child development, pelvic floor, pain, or other relevant pediatric areas.

Additional Requirements

1. Current Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy license or current Physical Therapy license with compact license privileges in Arizona, prior to start date.

2. Current AZ DPS fingerprint clearance card, prior to start date.

3. Current BLS Certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, prior to start date.

4. APTA pediatric specialty certification.
