Physical Therapist – Full Time, Days (Miami)

Purpose and Scope: Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including those related to patient satisfaction and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the organization Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient Related
- Education – Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access.
- Treatment – Welcome assigned patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin, obtain pre/post treatment vitals and weight, initiate dialysis, evaluate intradialytic problems, monitor response, record vital signs, document, discontinue treatment, obtain hemostasis, evaluate patient prior to discharge, calculate and enter dialysis machine programming, ensure safety alarms, record details on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, report significant changes to RN or supervisor, conduct machine safety checks, document interventions, monitor vascular access pressures, obtain laboratory tests, clean spills, organize supplies, monitor patient self‑care.
- Staff Related – Assist in training of direct patient care staff under supervision of a nurse; collaborate with Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator; provide developmental support to clinical and facility staff.
- Education/Communication – Participate in educational programs, monitor processes, maintain environmental integrity, clean and disinfect equipment, conduct pretreatment machine alarm testing, initiate Solution Delivery System, ensure ethical business practices.
- Record Keeping – Complete CQI activities, enter treatment data, review treatment sheets, prep initial patient charts, print lab requisitions, label and store lab samples, ensure collection by courier.
- Infection Control – Assist in collection for audits, act as change agent, reinforce policies, support staff and patient adherence, educate patients and families.
- Transitional Care Unit – Follow newly admitted patients through first 4 weeks, reinforce education, liaise with FKC staff, assist with treatment options and home dialysis understanding, coordinate transition to modality choice, order supplies and inventory.
- Physical Demands – Safe environment, frequent lifting up to 40 lbs., heavy patient movement, standing for prolonged periods, moderate noise, exposure to infectious materials, travel between facilities, require Ishihara Color Blindness test.
Education and Licenses
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Valid PCT national certification or state specific certification; all appropriate state licensure required.
- Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards.
Experience and Required Skills
- At least two years previous patient care experience in hospital or related facility preferred.
- Completion of dialysis training program and CPR certification required for continued employment.
