Orients new employees and may provide guidance to volunteers, students, support, or contract staff.Communications – Communication commonly occurs with persons who have similar or different functions inside or outside the organization. May provide problem-solving, consultation, advising or interpretation services to others. May work with outside vendors, but does not have the authority to commit for the organization.Confidentiality – Access and exposure to patient information is required for the performance of the job.Financial/ Budgetary – Suggests cost containment initiatives in immediate work unit/department.Judgment – Within scope of license, age-specific criteria and per physician referral, interprets physician orders, performs patient assessments, and plans and implements individualized patient treatment programs.Position impact – Impact of work is generally within department or service line.Working Conditions – Work is performed primarily indoors in a clinical setting including hospital, nursing home or outpatient sites. May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs, in which case will provide own transportation. For Home Care Departments work is performed at patient’s home. On occasion work may be performed outside of a clinic setting such as work with the driving program, hydrotherapy or home evaluations. Work requires physical activity with patients including lifting, manipulating, pushing, pulling, bending and walking. Patients may weigh over 200 pounds. Occasional exposure to serious injury and frequent environmental hazards to include blood and bodily fluids requiring standard precautions. Home care practioners must provide own transportation and travel daily between patient homes.Age-specific criteria - Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and assesses data reflective of the patient’s status. Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and provides care according to departmental policies and proceduresOther - May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs.# **What We Require:****Education:** Graduate of approved school of Physical Therapy. Bachelor's degree as Physical Therapist and 5 years of experience, OR Master's or Doctorate degree required. **Experience:** Experience in site specific level of care preferred but not required. For Home Health positions one year of clinical experience required. **Licensure, certification, and/or registration:** Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia by the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy. **Life Support:** AHA BLS-certified (from a Carilion approved program) within six months of employment. **Other Minimum Qualifications:** Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service and teamwork skills required.This job description is only meant to be a representative summary of the major responsibilities and accountabilities performed by the incumbents of this job.
