Wesley Rehabilitation Center in Wichita, KS is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to support patient recovery under the supervision of licensed physical therapists. This PRN role involves providing hands-on therapy, documenting progress, and contributing to individualized treatment plans.

The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited PTA program with current PTA license and BLS certification, capable of effective communication with patients and the health care team.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of graduation from accredited PTA program. BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program. Current PTA license required.
  • No experience required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate with patients using auditory Input and Output.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assess patients as part of therapy sessions.
  • Assist patients with prescribed exercises and use of assistive devices.
  • Record patients’ progress and report outcomes to physical therapists.
  • Educate patients and families on post-treatment care and home programs.
  • Utilize therapy equipment safely to aid mobility and pain management.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Physical therapy assistants, sometimes called PTAs, and physical therapist aide’s work under the direction and supervision of physical therapists. They help patients who are recovering from injuries and illnesses to regain movement and manage pain. Under the direction and supervision of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants treat patients through exercise, massage, gait and balance training, and other therapeutic interventions. They record patients’ progress and report the results of each treatment to the physical therapist.

Physical therapist assistants typically do the following
  • Observe patients before, during, and after therapy, noting the patient’s status and reporting it to a physical therapist
  • Help patients do specific exercises as part of the plan of care
  • Treat patients using a variety of techniques, such as massage and stretching
  • Use devices and equipment, such as walkers, to help patients
  • Educate patients and family members about what to do after treatment
  • Certificate of graduation from accredited PTA program. BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
