Job summary

Adventist Health seeks a driven Physical Therapy Assistant to provide in-home or facility-based physical therapy under the supervision of licensed physical therapists. You will implement modalities, manual techniques, and therapeutic exercises, guiding patients through bed mobility, transfers, gait and balance training.

You will document interventions daily, educate patients and caregivers, and support the therapy team in clinical procedures and staff training as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's/Technical degree preferred; related experience considered.
• Two years' technical experience preferred.
• Experience in therapy in an acute care environment, acute therapy unit and/or outpatient setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs physical therapy treatments using modalities, manual techniques and common exercise techniques.
• Instructs and guides patients through bed mobility, transfers, gait and balance activities.
• Maintains daily patient chart documentation of interventions and services.
• Provides education and training to patients and caregivers, incorporating learning style preferences.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience

• High School Education/GED or equalité: Required
• Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
• Two years' technical experience: Preferred
• Experience in therapy in an acute care environment, acute therapy unit and/or out patient setting: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Physical Therapy Assistant licensure in all applicable states of practice: Required
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
• Valid Driver's License (DL) and must be at least 21 years of age or older: Required

Essential Functions

• Performs physical therapy treatments, including the use of modalities, manual techniques and common exercise techniques. Instructs and guides patients through functional activities, such as bed mobility, transfers and gait and balance activities.
• Observes and follows treatment precautions as identified by physical therapists, nurses or physicians. Observes for changes in patient responses and reports changes to nurses and physical therapists in charge.
• Provides daily and timely patient chart documentation of interventions and services provided in the acute care setting. Documents employee and out-patient treatments, as necessary.
• Provides education and training to patients and caregivers, while incorporating learning style preferences. Assesses education and training responses.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
