Job summary

Tidelands Health seeks a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) for outpatient rehabilitation. Under the supervision of a physical therapist, you will deliver therapeutic services, administer treatments, and assist in care planning to improve patient function.

Responsibilities include patient assessment, documenting progress in the EMR, educating patients and families for home programs, and contributing to program development and quality improvement. Must have SC PTA license and BLS.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required in Physical Therapy Assistant (SC).
  • Licensed as Physical Therapist Assistant in South Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association) within 30 days.
  • Ability to work in outpatient rehab setting.

Responsibilities

  • Treat patients with therapeutic exercises and modalities under PT supervision.
  • Reassess functional abilities and document progress.
  • Complete documentation in EMR per guidelines.
  • Educate patients and families for home care.
  • Support program development and quality improvement.

A physical therapist assistant (PTA) must be able to follow the evaluation of a patient's condition and deliver the customized physical rehabilitation and treatment plan. The physical therapist assistant shall also demonstrate accountability for the contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion. The employee may have job functions where they will handle and deliver medications based on the requirements of their job in the assigned work facility. The employee will complete other duties as assigned.What you will doTreat patients by using therapeutic and self-care activities and exercise designed to improve function under the direction of the physical therapist (PT)Reassess patients' functional ability through various standardized tests, measuring patient's strength, motor development, sensory perception, and level of independence with daily activities, and records findings and updates PTAdminister a designated treatment plan for patients with specific goals and tasks developed by the PTAdminister treatments involving application of physical agents, such as cold packs, contrast baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, Iontophoresis, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound machinesRecord treatment, responses, and progress in the patient’s electronic medical record and prepare reports as indicated by licensure, the PT, the provider, and or insurance recommendationsInstruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at homeComplete documentation per clinical / department guidelines and meets expectations of monthly department chart auditsComplete required orientation as directed by facilityPromote/educate Organizations Rehabilitation programs to referring physicians, healthcare providers, and or co-workers by performing in-services and/or marketing activities.Reduce cancel/no-show rates to improve quality of care and patient outcomesAchieve the established average monthly patient care productivity metricEducation QualificationsAssociate's Degree RequiredSkills and AbilitiesAbility to utilize therapy equipment in an outpatient rehabilitation setting to provide treatment and proceduresPunctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shiftsAbility to respect cultural and religious practices of patientsLicenses and CertificationsPhysical Therapist Assistant - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation RequiredBasic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days RequiredPhysical DemandMedium-Heavy Physical DemandThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative and level of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as a contract for employment nor a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
