Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering the treatment plan after the child has been evaluated and the plan approved by the supervising physical therapist.
• Track the need for reassessment and report changes that might warrant reassessment or referral.
• Potentially administer reassessment under supervision of the supervising physical therapist.
• Discontinue any procedure that appears harmful and notify the supervising physical therapist immediately.
• Discharge the child from a treatment program only under supervision of the supervising physical therapist.
• Maintain appropriate certification.
• Exhibit positive language and behavior skills for children and families.
• Follow ECPTOTE supervision guidelines and IFSP/IEP team planning.
• Provide and update schedules as changes occur and plan accordingly.
• Other duties as assigned.

General Summary

Responsible to assist in the practice of physical therapy under the supervision of a physical therapist. Typically, therapy will be provided in the child’s natural environment.

Responsible to assist in the practice of physical therapy under the supervision of a physical therapist. Typically, therapy will be provided in the child’s natural environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Exhibit a positive professional attitude with supervisors, co-workers, children, and community.
• Maintain confidentiality of all children and employee related information.
• Exercise sound judgment and provide appropriate care in the performance of duties.
• Assist in delivering the treatment plan after the child has been evaluated and the treatment plan has been developed by the physical therapist and approved by the IFSP/IEP team.
• Will track the need for reassessment, report changes in status that might warrant reassessment or referral, and may administer the reassessment under the supervision of the supervising physical therapist.
• Immediately discontinue any specific treatment procedure which appears harmful to the child and immediately notify the supervising physical therapist.
• Not discharge the child from a treatment program without supervision from the supervising physical therapist.
• Maintain appropriate certification.
• Exhibit positive language and behavior skills as a model for children and families.
• Adheres to the Physical Therapy Code of Ethics.
• Serve under the general supervision of a Licensed/Registered Physical Therapist following the supervision guidelines set forth by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners (ECPTOTE).
• Provides and updates schedule as changes occur and ensures proper planning as per the IFSP.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

• Two (2) to Three (3) or more years pediatric experience

Education/Certifications/Licensure

• Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
• Successful completion of the National Certification exam.
• State of Texas Physical Therapy Assistant License.
• The candidate must have a valid driver's license, a safe driving record and auto insurance required.
• The candidate must pass a pre-employment physical.
