Qualifications

• Certified Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) with an Associate Degree from an accredited school.
• 1–2 years of PTA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers the physical therapy treatment plan under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Facilitates the patient’s ROM, strength, coordination, use of assistive devices, functional mobility and ADL performance needs.
• Communicates with the Therapy Supervisor, Patient Care Manager, and appropriate staff to plan rehabilitation for the patient.
• Observes, records and reports patient response to treatment and changes in condition to physician/clinical supervisor.
• Documents effectiveness and outcomes of care timely and in compliance with policy; plans for discharge with the LPT.
• Instructs other health team personnel in areas of physical therapy, including ADL training for patients and families.
• Adheres to infection control and universal precautions; uses transportation as necessary and maintains driving eligibility.

Confers with OT, nursing staff, SLP, MSW and HHA’s in planning rehabilitation for the patient.* Observes, records and reports patient’s response to treatment and any changes in patient’s condition to physician and/or clinical supervisor.* Documentation is timely, accurate, legible and in compliance with the agency policy and directives.* Documents the effectiveness and outcomes of care on an ongoing basis and makes revisions as needed.* Plans for discharge as appropriate in conjunction with the LPT.* Instructs other health team personnel, when appropriate, in certain areas of physical therapy, including activities of daily living, in which they may work with the patients. This includes the patient and family members.* Applies concepts of infection control and universal precautions in coordinating/performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease.* Accepts clinical assignments that are consistent with education and competence to care for patients.* Meets mandatory continuing education requirements.* Provides orientation to new orientees related to scope of practice.* Uses own transportation to provide services: Must have and maintain valid PA or NJ Driver’s License; Must have and maintain a good driving record accepted by the Network insurance carrier; Must have and maintain motor vehicle insurance with the minimum requirements established by PA or NJ; Must obey and adhere to all motor vehicle regulations and laws while operating vehicle; Must perform routine maintenance on vehicle.**PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:**Must be able to sit for up to ninety minutes at a time. Be able to tolerate standing for thirty to forty-five minutes consecutively. Must be able to use hands/fingers to manipulate dials on machines. Must have the ability to lift/move patients up to 300 lbs., push/pull patients weighing up to 300 lbs. Must have the ability to frequently stoop/bend, squat, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level. Must be capable of tactile sensation as it relates to feeling for muscle spasms, texture and skin temperature. Must have the ability to hear as it relates to normal conversation and ability to hear call bells.
