Job summary

Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, WV is seeking a Physical Therapist to evaluate and treat patients as part of a prescribed rehabilitation program. The role requires active licensure in the applicable state and completion of BLS within 30 days of hire.

This is a Level I/II PT position with potential for advancement through the clinical ladder. The ladder includes Levels 1–5, with increasing experience required and opportunities to supervise PTAs, rehab techs, and students while delivering

Responsibilities

• Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.
• Applies research and proven techniques to examine, diagnose, and treat conditions that limit movement and daily life.
• Oversees PTAs, Rehab Techs, students, and volunteers.
• Supports departmental goals and contributes to the hospital’s objectives.
• Supervises therapy students and assistants per regulatory standards.
• Submits accurate charges for services using the EMR.

Evaluates and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs. Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Physical Therapist - Level I & II, as defined within the job description.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

• Current physical therapist licensure in the applicable state where services will be performed:

MD: Physical Therapist License through Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners OR Physical Therapist Compact License

OH: Physical Therapist License through Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training Board OR Physical Therapist Compact License

PA: Physical Therapist License through Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy OR Physical Therapist Compact License

WV: Physical Therapist License through West Virginia Board of Physical Therapists OR Physical Therapist Compact License

• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Experience

• Four (4) years of physical therapist experience.

• Certification in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT) through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine


• Fellow American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT)


• Certified Hand Therapist through Hand Therapy Certification Commission


• Credentialed Clinical Instructor (Level I) through the American Physical Therapy Association


• Credentialed Clinical Instructor (Level II) through the American Physical Therapy Association


• Certified Stroke Rehab Specialist (CSRS) through Neuro Recovery Unlimited


• Certification in Dry Needling (CIDN) or Functional Dry Needling (FDN) through Integrated Rehabilitation Services

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.


• Applies research and proven techniques to examine, diagnose, and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body's ability to move and function in daily life as monitored by supervision, by documentation review, and consultation with M.D.


• Carries out oversight responsibilities to ensure supervision of PTAs, Rehab Techs, students, and volunteers.


• Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital’s organization’s goals and objectives.


• Supervision of physical therapy students and volunteers. Will provide supervision of therapy assistants in accordance with regulatory standards.


• Submits accurate charges for services rendered for patients, according to departmental policies and procedures utilizing the billing system via the patient’s EMR.

For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

• Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

Physical Requirements

• The national Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms. Details specific to therapeutic interventions outlined in Safe Patient Mobility Policy where applicable.


• Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.


• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment

• Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and different types of cleaning and laundry chemicals.

• Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules including an ability to integrate multiple factors which may have an impact on patient care.
