Overview

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service - Clinical Video TeleRehab Program - Dallas, Bonham, and Fort Worth campuses of the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX. This vacancy will remain open until filled. The first cut-off date is 06/18/2026. Additional applications will be referred as needed.

Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Individuals appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapters 73 or 74 - to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA must be proficient in written and spoken English
  • Education and experience: The individual must meet at least one of the requirements below:
    1. Bachelor\'s degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist
    2. Master\'s degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist
    3. Doctorate degree in physical therapy
  • Prior to 1995 the terminal degree for PTs was either a bachelor\'s or master\'s degree; CAPTE accreditation history references
  • Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited college or university
  • L icensure: Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia
  • Non-licensed PTs may be given a temporary appointment at the GS-11 level under 38 U.S.C. 7405(a)(1)(D) for up to two years, with supervision by a licensed PT
  • May qualify under the VA Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard (applicable to current VHA employees in this occupation)
  • Grade Determinations: GS-11, GS-12 – Education, Experience, and Licensure requirements; duties include assessment and treatment interventions; supervision of PTAs or students as applicable
  • Preferred Experience: Telehealth evaluations and assessments, clinical video telehealth, traumatic brain injuries, polytrauma, amputee care, outpatient orthopedics and related modalities

Responsibilities

  • GS 11/12: Clinical functions include patient care, evaluations, and coordination of veteran care in an outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Coordinate Veteran schedules with interdisciplinary team members
  • Conduct examinations and evaluations of individuals with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and/or integumentary conditions, considering psychosocial and environmental factors
  • Review medical records and interpret examination findings and diagnostic tests
  • Establish diagnoses within the scope of physical therapy and determine interventions or referrals as needed
  • Develop and modify treatment plans based on patient response and goals; document progression and outcomes
  • Provide oversight of Physical Therapy Assistants and students on clinical affiliations; supervise non-licensed staff as applicable
  • Supervise licensed PTs and PTAs as required; practice under supervision where not licensed
  • GS-12: Demonstrate autonomous clinical decision-making, exam and evaluation skills, test selection, prognosis, and goal setting
  • Provide comprehensive telehealth evaluations and treatments; develop home programs and discharge plans
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and stakeholders to develop functional goals and ensure continuity of care
  • Administrative duties: triage referrals, manage caseloads, ensure consult compliance, and support CVT services for veteran care
  • Participate in process improvement and program evaluation related to CVT and PM&R services
  • Adhere to department and facility procedures; manage supplies and inventory for assigned clinics
  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Telework not available; virtual position not applicable
