Job summary

LUZCO Technologies LLC is seeking a Physical Substation Engineer to help maintain high-quality deliverables. You will perform QA/QC reviews of substation design packages and provide technical feedback to improve constructibility and standards compliance.

The role requires extensive experience with substation layouts, CAD tools, and strong communication to collaborate with project teams and clients. A PE license is preferred as part of professional growth within a supportive, people-first culture.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in physical substation design, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of utility substation layouts, design standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience reviewing CAD-based engineering drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet review deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear, constructive technical feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Performing QA/QC reviews of physical substation design packages, including general arrangements, sections, conduit plans, grounding plans, and equipment layouts.
  • Verifying compliance with utility standards, applicable codes (NESC/NEC), and LUZCO's internal engineering standards.
  • Providing thorough technical feedback, redlines, and guidance to improve design quality and consistency.
  • Collaborating with project managers and design engineers to resolve technical issues and deliver high-quality engineering packages.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of QA/QC processes, review checklists, and engineering best practices.
  • Assisting with additional responsibilities as needed to support project and team success.

The Role

The Physical Substation Engineer plays an integral role in maintaining the quality of LUZCO's engineering deliverables by performing QA/QC reviews of physical substation design packages. Working closely with engineers, this role provides technical guidance, identifies opportunities for improvement, and helps ensure designs are accurate, constructible, and compliant with applicable standards.

This position is well suited for an experienced engineer who is analytical, detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about engineering excellence. They enjoy sharing their technical expertise, providing constructive feedback, and helping maintain consistency and quality across engineering deliverables.

What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Physical Substation Engineer, you'll serve as a technical reviewer and trusted resource for our engineering team by:
