E2 Consulting Engineers, LP in San Diego is seeking a Physical Substation Design Engineer to join our team. You will design substation deliverables, perform electrical calculations, and ensure conformance to client and industry standards.

The role reports to the Substation Engineering Manager and involves collaboration with lead engineers on a major utility project. Local candidates preferred for this on-site position.

Qualifications

• BSc in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited college or university.
• Minimum 3+ years of substation design experience with utility or consulting firm.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design substation deliverables: general arrangement, equipment plan/elevation.
• Prepare CAD drawings with accuracy and minimal errors.
• Perform conduit, bus sizing, lighting and grounding analyses.
• Ensure designs meet client and industry standards.
• Coordinate with lead engineer/project manager and track activities.
• Participate in site meetings and RFIs during construction.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Overview

E2 is looking for a Substation Engineer to join our team in our San Diego area to support one of the largest electric utility clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of deliverables including general arrangement drawings, electrical equipment plan & elevation drawings, above & below grade conduit & grounding drawings, relay house layout and complete bill of materials. The position will work under the direction of a Lead Engineer and will report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Perform substation physical design activities including drawings, specifications, and bill of materials.
• Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to Lead Engineer for review.
• Prepare computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors.
• Perform engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, lighting & lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis.
• Ensure all designs conform to our client's and industry standards.
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with lead engineer and/or project manager.
• Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities.
• Participate in site meetings to gather scope of work.
• Participate in answering Request for Information (RFI) during project construction.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university. * 3+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm. * Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook). * Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation or similar software. * Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Professional Engineer's License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required. * Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable.
• Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable.
