Qualifications

  • Degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics with 24 semester hours in physical science/related engineering sciences.
  • Education/experience substitution requires transcripts and documentation per DOE guidelines.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated per U.S. Department of Education guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, plan, and direct complex physical science programs translating priorities into long-range goals, research agendas, and resource plans.
  • Serve as a recognized DOE authority providing analyses and recommendations on EPSCoR topics to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Manage program budgets, monitor progress, conduct evaluations for alignment with DOE/EPSCoR goals, and oversee corrective actions and contractor performance.
  • Act as official spokesperson and liaison for DOE in national/international forums to advance scientific collaboration and geographic diversity in research; oversee proposal peer review and funding allocation.

Veterans shape the future of energy As a Physical Scientist (EPSCoR Program Manager), you will: Conceive, plan, and direct complex, cutting‑edge physical science programs translating high‑level priorities into long‑range strategic goals, research agendas, and resource plans.

Serve as a recognized agency authority providing expert consultation, analyses, and recommendations on advanced physical science topics relevant to the EPSCoR program to senior leadership and external stakeholders. Manage program budgets, monitor project progress, conduct evaluations to ensure alignment with DOE and EPSCoR goals, and oversee corrective actions and contractor performance.

Act as an official spokesperson and liaison for the DOE in high‑level national/international forums, interagency committees, and professional conferences to advance scientific collaboration and geographic diversity in research. Oversee the solicitation, independent peer review, and funding allocation processes for scientific proposals, ensuring the integration of innovative physical science research across the agency.

Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B.

Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. If substituting education for specialized experience you must submit proof of your qualifying education. Failure to provide college transcripts may result in a rating of 'Ineligible'.

Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
