Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Physical Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a closely related field. This role focuses on processing-microstructure-property relationships in metallic materials, with a 9x80 schedule and every other Friday off.

The candidate will design experiments, apply advanced characterization (SEM, TEM, EBSD, EDS), perform mechanical testing, and develop data-driven understanding of materials processing and performance.

Qualifications

• PhD required by start date and within 5 years of appointment.
• Strong background in physical metallurgy and metallic materials.
• Experience with microstructural characterization techniques.
• Experience in mechanical property testing and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on processing-microstructure-property relationships in metallic materials.
• Plan and execute experiments using advanced materials processing techniques.
• Perform microstructural characterization using SEM/TEM/EBSD/EDS.
• Conduct mechanical testing including hardness, tensile, creep, fatigue, and fracture toughness.
• Analyze data and develop processing-microstructure-property models.
• Prepare technical reports and publish findings.
