Job summary

Sphere Software seeks a Senior Data Center Architect to lead the technical architecture for modular AI infrastructure platforms and high-density compute campuses. You will define scalable reference architectures and drive standardization across deployments.

Collaborating with sales engineering, manufacturing, electrical engineering, and partners, you will translate workloads into repeatable, manufacturable infrastructure designs, BOMs, and deployment plans that scale with future AI workloads.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years in senior/principal architecture roles within hyperscale or AI/HPC infra environments.
  • Experience delivering large-scale high-density compute environments with liquid cooling.
  • Expertise in electrical infrastructure (MV/LV, switchgear, ATS, SCADA) and IT infra (rack design, fabrics, cooling).
  • Experience with modular/productised engineering environments rather than fully custom builds.
  • Familiarity with accelerated computing ecosystems and modern networking architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve standardized reference architectures for modular high-density AI infrastructure platforms and scalable campus deployments.
  • Drive the balance between standardized platform components and site-specific configurability across cooling, density, environmental, and power-source considerations.
  • Lead technical discovery and solution scoping with customer engineering teams and internal sales engineering stakeholders.
  • Translate workload characteristics, accelerator profiles, and site constraints into deterministic infrastructure designs, deployment plans, and BOM definitions.
  • Maintain alignment with leading accelerated computing ecosystem architectures, including GPU platforms, high-performance fabrics, storage architectures, and next-generation networking technologies.
  • Develop phased infrastructure strategies enabling current-generation deployments while preserving upgrade paths for future compute generations.
  • Own architecture decisions across IT and infrastructure domains in coordination with electrical engineering, controls, and utility-facing design teams.
  • Contribute to utility coordination packages, load analysis reviews, and critical infrastructure planning activities.
  • Drive a productized engineering mindset where repeatability, manufacturability, and catalog-based deployment standards are prioritized over one-off custom solutions.
  • Support FAT, SAT, commissioning activities, and technical customer reviews.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, supply-chain, and operations teams to ensure architecture decisions align with production realities and deployment timelines.
  • Represent the organization in technical steering discussions, customer design reviews, and industry events.

Job description

Physical Infrastructure Architect / AI Data Center Architect
  • USA, USA

We are looking for a Senior Data Center Systems Architectto lead the technical architecture and standardization strategy for next-generation modular AI infrastructure platforms and high-density compute campuses.

This role owns the definition and evolution of scalable reference architectures spanning modular deployments through multi-building environments supporting advanced accelerated computing workloads. The Architect partners closely with sales engineering, manufacturing, electrical engineering, and strategic technology partners to translate customer requirements into repeatable, manufacturable infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities:

Define and evolve standardized reference architectures for modular high-density AI infrastructure platforms and scalable campus deployments.

Drive the balance between standardized platform components and site-specific configurability across cooling, density, environmental, and power-source considerations.

Lead technical discovery and solution scoping with customer engineering teams and internal sales engineering stakeholders.

Translate workload characteristics, accelerator profiles, and site constraints into deterministic infrastructure designs, deployment plans, and bill-of-materials definitions.

Maintain alignment with leading accelerated computing ecosystem architectures, including GPU platforms, high-performance fabrics, storage architectures, and next-generation networking technologies.

Develop phased infrastructure strategies enabling current-generation deployments while preserving upgrade paths for future compute generations.

Own architecture decisions across IT and infrastructure domains in coordination with electrical engineering, controls, and utility-facing design teams.

Contribute to utility coordination packages, load analysis reviews, and critical infrastructure planning activities.

Drive a productized engineering mindset where repeatability, manufacturability, and catalog-based deployment standards are prioritized over one-off custom solutions.

Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning activities, and technical customer reviews.

Collaborate with manufacturing, supply-chain, and operations teams to ensure architecture decisions align with production realities and deployment timelines.

Represent the organization in technical steering discussions, customer design reviews, and industry events.

Requirements:

15+ years of experience in senior/principal architecture roles within hyperscale infrastructure, mission-critical environments, modular data centre platforms, EPC organisations, or advanced AI/HPC infrastructure ecosystems.

Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale high-density compute environments utilising liquid cooling technologies.

Experienced in:

Mission-critical electrical infrastructure (MV/LV distribution, switchgear, ATS, SCADA, utility coordination), and

IT infrastructure architecture (rack design, network fabrics, storage architecture, thermal management, cooling distribution).

Experience working with modular, productised, or catalog-driven engineering environments rather than exclusively custom-built infrastructure projects.

Familiarity with accelerated computing ecosystems, AI cluster infrastructure, and modern high-performance networking architectures.

Comfortable operating as a senior technical IC with executive-level customer exposure.

Proven ability to communicate complex infrastructure trade-offs to technical committees, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Experience with factory-built or modular deployment models strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

High-density liquid cooling deployments exceeding traditional enterprise rack densities.

Exposure to large-scale AI or HPC cluster deployments.

Knowledge of commissioning, reliability, and compliance standards commonly used in mission-critical infrastructure environments.

Experience supporting regulated, government, or critical infrastructure environments is beneficial but not required.
