Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. in Knoxville, TN seeks a Physical Engineering Associate for our Power Delivery Substation design team.

The successful candidate will contribute to developing One-Line Diagrams, Electrical Arrangement Plans, Bills of Materials, and related deliverables for 69kV–500kV substations. With 0–4 years of substation design experience or strong interest, you will collaborate with engineers, follow project scopes, and support QA and client meetings.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited college/university.
• EIT certification preferred or in progress.
• Progressively responsible design experience in 69kV–500kV substations preferred, or strong interest.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and complete discipline engineering designs and supporting documentation.
• Prepare design details, plans, and drawings; coordinate with other disciplines.
• Interface with clients and team to ensure project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Promote quality and adherence to project standards across all work.

Mesa is seeking a Physical Engineering Associate for our Power Delivery Substation engineering design team based out of Knoxville, TN. The successful candidate should have 0-4 years of experience in Physical substation design in 69kV to 500kV substations. This individual will work with a team to complete substation Physical design projects to meet client standards and practices. They will be responsible for maintaining good quality and efficiency while developing deliverables such as: One-Line Diagrams, Substation General/Electrical Arrangement Plans, Electrical Arrangement Elevations, Foundation Plans, Conduit Plans, Bills of Materials, Cable Schedules, Aluminum/Steel Fabrication Details.

Education/Experience/Licensure

• A minimum of a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or related, from an ABET accredited college or university is required.
• Progressively responsible experience in 69kV to 500kV substation Physical design is preferred. However, we would consider someone with no experience, but an interest in substations.
• EIT is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs and supporting documentation.
• Coordinates and prepares design details, plans, and drawings.
• Interfaces with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects as required.
• Responsible for adhering to project scope, schedule, and budget on all assigned projects.
• Performs other duties assigned by Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager.
• Establish, promote, and assure quality on all project work.
• Work with Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager to follow up on construction issues with field engineers to help resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner.
• Attend client organized project meetings with staff as required.
• Incorporate safe work practices into all activities.
• Work with Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager and team to assist with project execution, work processes, and procedures to help continually improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.
• Use strong verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients.
• Use interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and clients.
• Possess knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
• Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.

This opportunity is for a hybrid work environment (home and office) and requires residing within the Knoxville, TN area.
