Job summary

Harlem Academy in New York seeks a dedicated physical education teacher to lead weekly fitness classes across K-8, differentiate instruction, and promote lifelong healthy living.

You will coach middle school cross-country in fall and track in spring, collaborate with outside organizations for tennis, fencing, or soccer, and participate in the school community.

We offer salary $50,000–$70,000, benefits, and 10 weeks paid vacation, based on experience.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in relevant field preferred but not required.
• At least three years of relevant experience, ideally in a K-8 school environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, and group management skills.

Responsibilities

• Our incoming physical education teacher has responsibility to:
• Lead weekly sports and fitness classes across all grades (K-8), working with grade-specific teachers in the delivery of the program for the younger students and running programming independently for groups of 20 to 30 students in the older grades
• Coordinate and coach a coed, middle school cross-country team (fall) and track team (spring)
• Coordinate our partnerships with outside organizations for the delivery of programming in sports such as tennis, fencing, or soccer
• Foster an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, solve problems, develop critical thinking skills, and build habits for lifelong healthy living.
• Differentiate instruction to meet a range of abilities from students who are already competitive athletes to those who are just being introduced to many of the activities
• Use FitnessGram to measure student progress and provide meaningful feedback to students and their families.
• Participating actively in the school community, including attending faculty meetings, and school events, and contributing to extracurricular activities.

Compensation

• Harlem Academy offers professional development opportunities, benefits, 10 weeks of paid vacation, and salary from $50,000 to $70,000 based on experience and demonstrated skills.
