Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a board‑certified/eligible Physiatrist to join our Tacoma team at St. Joseph Medical Center.

You will diagnose and manage a broad range of physiatry conditions, develop individualized plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary group to support holistic patient care. The role includes performing EMG/NCS 1–2 days per week, with referrals from primary care, orthopedics, and neurosurgery.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Physiatry.
  • Active or eligible license in the state of Washington.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Physiatrist, you will join our dynamic healthcare team in Tacoma, specializing in diagnosing and treating a wide array of physiatry disorders, making a significant impact on their lives and families. You will provide compassionate and expert care, conducting thorough assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support the holistic well‑being of our patients and their families within Franciscan Medical Group.

To be successful in this role, you will be a skilled, board‑certified, and compassionate Physiatrist, possessing expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of Physiatry patients, alongside strong communication abilities. You will also demonstrate a deep commitment to patient‑centered care and the capacity to thrive within a collegial and supportive environment.

  • Full‑time (1.0FTE) position based at St. Joseph Medical Center campus in Tacoma, WA.

  • Join three other Physiatrists at this location. Support staff includes an RN, MA and admin support staff.

  • There are no call requirements for this position.

  • The new physician will perform EMG/NCS procedures 1-2 days per week (6-8 studies per day)

  • Referrals come mainly from our primary care, orthopedics and neurosurgery teams. Cases include patients with back pain who are deemed non surgical.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution

  • Board certification or eligibility in Physiatry

  • Active or eligible license in the state of Washington

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment

  • Commitment to providing high‑quality, compassionate care to children and families
