Job summary

Langham Recruitment seeks a Principal Photonics Systems Integration Engineer to lead integration of photonic technologies into next-generation optical module products. You will own system integration across PICs, lasers, test systems and product development, driving technical decisions and ensuring manufacturability.

Qualifications

  • Experience in photonics or optical communications industries.
  • Experience with integration and test of PICs, lasers, and high-speed optical/photonics applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of photonic system integration, optical packaging and product development.

Responsibilities

  • Own photonics system integration strategy for next-generation optical modules from development to volume manufacturing.
  • Define and manage system-level optical performance requirements, specifications, interfaces and budgets.
  • Lead integration of photonic technologies including PICs, lasers, SOAs, fibre interfaces, packaging and thermal solutions.
  • Drive PIC characterization, optical testing, qualification planning and performance validation.
  • Act as technical authority for photonics integration, guiding architecture and trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with PIC design, module engineering, manufacturing, reliability and external partners.
  • Support product development from prototype through manufacturing transfer and ramp.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Photonics Systems Integration Engineer to lead the integration of advanced photonic technologies into next-generation optical module products. This is a high-impact role where you will own photonics system integration across PICs, lasers, test systems and product development, ensuring innovative technologies are successfully delivered.

Working at the forefront of photonics and systems engineering, you'll lead photonic integration, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-performance, manufacturable optical products. This is an excellent opportunity to influence product architecture, drive technical decisions and play a key role in bringing cutting-edge optical technologies to market.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the photonics system integration strategy for next-generation optical modules, ensuring successful delivery from development through qualification into volume manufacturing.
  • Define and manage system-level optical performance requirements, specifications, interfaces and optical budgets.
  • Lead the integration of photonic technologies including semiconductor lasers, silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs), SOAs, fibre interfaces, optical packaging and thermal solutions.
  • Drive PIC characterisation, optical testing, qualification planning and performance validation, translating results into product specifications.
  • Act as the technical authority for photonics integration, influencing system architecture and engineering trade-offs across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate closely with PIC design, module engineering, manufacturing, reliability, programme teams and external technology partners to deliver robust products.
  • Support product development activities from prototype through manufacturing transfer and production ramp, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, scalability and cost.

Experience

  • Proven experience in a role within the photonics or optical communications industry.
  • Experience with the integration and test of PICs, lasers, and high speed optical / photonics applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of photonic system integration, optical packaging and product development.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence technical decisions at all levels.
