Job summary

Nevada Gold Mines in Battle Mountain, NV invites a Process Engineer specializing in tailings and heap leach management to join the Phoenix Mine team. You will help ensure design, construction, operation, monitoring and closure of TSFs and HLFs in compliance with regulatory requirements, Barrick standards, and GISTM.

Responsibilities

• Strong health and safety leadership for site excellence.
• Conduct inspections and monitoring of TSFs and HLFs.
• Develop tailings management plans and SOPs aligned with GISTM.
• Collaborate with operating teams, engineers, env. specialists, consultants, and Engineers of Record.
• Interpret monitoring data to ensure TSF/HLF stability and performance.
• Communicate geotechnical findings to Process, Mine Ops and Engineering.
• Manage geotechnical drilling investigation programs.
• Lead large-scale projects with budget tracking and execution.
• Support reclamation and closure of TSFs/HLFs at end of mine life.
• Provide updates on water and mass balance modeling for decision making.

As an Engineer specializing in Tailings and Heap Leach Management, you will play a crucial role to ensure that design, construction, operation, monitoring and closure of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and heap leach facilities (HLFs) at the Phoenix Mine are following regulatory requirements, the Barrick Tailings and Heap Leach Management Standards, and the Global Industry on Tailings Management (GISTM). Your responsibilities will involve a combination of technical expertise, fieldwork, data analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

• A strong health and safety leader that strives for personal and site-wide excellence
• Conduct regular inspections and monitoring of TSFs and HLFs
• Contribute to the development and implementation of tailings management plans, and standard operating procedures, aligning with GISTM guidelines
• Work closely with operating teams, mining engineers, environmental specialists, outside consultants, and Engineers of Record to ensure effective facility management
• Review and interpret monitoring data: groundwater levels, seepage, settlement, and other relevant parameters to ensure stability and performance of TSF's and HLFs
• Effectively communicate geotechnical findings, conclusions and recommendations to Process, Mine Operations and Engineering personnel
• Manage geotechnical drilling investigation programs
• Manage large scale projects including team coordination, budget tracking, and execution
• Provide input and support during reclamation and closure of TSFs and HLFs that have reached the end of their mine life
• Provide regular updates on water and mass balance modeling results to inform decision-making and optimize fluid management strategies around TSFs and HLFs
• Participate in interdisciplinary teams to address challenges and find innovative solutions

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related engineering degree or equivalent experience required
• Strong project management skills required
• Knowledge of tailings and heap leach operations and construction required
• 2 to 5 years of experience in the mining or related industry preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills required
• Ability to work in a team required
