Job summary

Quest Diagnostics in Vadnais Heights, MN is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform venous and capillary blood collection and POC testing across patient ages from newborn to geriatric. This full‑time role includes a 9:00 AM–5:30 PM schedule with occasional weekend rotations and end‑of‑shift flexibility.

Responsibilities include preparing carts, assisting with draws, processing specimens, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • 1 year phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric/geriatric collections
  • Keyboard/data entry experience required
  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends/holidays/on‑call/overtime
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license, if applicable

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood and/or perform POC as assigned
  • Prepare phlebotomy carts/trays and restock supplies
  • Assist coworkers with draws and POC testing
  • Draw venous/capillary blood from patients of all ages using aseptic technique
  • Deliver and process blood work per policy timelines
  • Document POC testing and report incidents promptly
  • Notify supervisor of supply needs and equipment defects
  • Travel to health fairs/testing sites as needed

Job description

Phlebotomy Technician – Vadnais Heights, MN

Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Flexibility required at end of shift, with rotational weekends.

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions.

Pay range: $23.00–$28.00 per hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications obtained. Successful candidates may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Collect blood and/or perform POC as assigned
  • Cleans and re‑stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays
  • Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques
  • Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames
  • Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested
  • Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics
  • Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
  • Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor
  • Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion
  • Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if falls out of range to group leader or supervisor
  • Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing, as needed, at Health Fair and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.)
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the clinic’s Organizational Competencies

Physical Requirements
  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 15 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; 16 to 25 pounds occasionally; 26 to 40 pounds seldom; >41 pounds not to be lifted or carried without assistance
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently throughout the day
